Trailer & images from animated short After You
Hey, here is a short film that I worked on as a Tech Director and Art Director last year with Damien O’Connor and Matt Darragh! They seem to like it in New Zealand It’s frst public showing will be at the Galway Film Fleadh this year so see you all there, in the meantime here is the article… ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This year sees the excting release of the animated short film 'After You', directed by Damien O Connor. The story spans 60 years in the life of a Dublin doorman. In 2011, animation students in their 2nd year class at South Seas were offered the great opportunity to work on the film as CG character animators, and they were only too pleased to be a part of the project. South Seas has developed an advanced and very specialised character animation training program, which aims to prepare students to adapt quickly to a projects requirements, and produce animation at an industry standard. During production the students worked in their own time creating animation for a number of scenes in the film, under the supervision of the films animation director Matthew Darragh. Working with an experienced animation director gave each student the opportunity to receive valuable feedback on their animation, in a real production situation. “Working on After You was a great experience. The story was strong, and the design very appealing - which made animating the characters a real pleasure. I learned a great deal from Matt's supervision; as well as how to work within a CG pipeline." - 2011 Graduate, Nick Barber Each scene had to be first approved by the animation director in New Zealand before being submitted for final approval by the film’s director in Ireland, Damien O Connor. South Seas are extremely proud of the work their students did for this short film project. Animation course director Greg Chapman couldn’t resist doing some animation work on the film also. “It is good to be able to work with a talented team on a project like this. I am really grateful for the opportunity for our students to work at this level, so Thanks to Damien for such an amazing short film, and to Matt for bringing the project our way and for his work with the students. It has been years since I last worked on something with Matt so that was a lot of fun too.” After You, Director - Damien O Connor Since graduating from DLCAD Damien has written and directed three, multiple award winning, shorts under the Irish Film Board, RTE, Irish Arts Council funded Frameworks scheme. ‘Mutt’ (1996), ‘Ledog’ (2004) and the IFTA Nominated ‘Dick Terrapin (2005). He has produced two documentaries 'Journey To The Grey Zone' which was filmed in war torn Angola and 'Whose Art Is It Anyway?' an exploration of Irish Sculpture. He currently works for Brown Bag Films in Dublin. He is represented by the Lisa Richards Agency and can be contacted directly via Twitter - @ratskins. Animation Director - Matthew Darragh New Zealand born animator Matthew Darragh has written and directed a number of award winning short films, including the Irish Film Board funded “Pilgrim” (2006) and “The Monk and the Fly” (2010) “Pilgrim” was released nationwide in 80 cinemas with Disney’s “The Santa Clause 3”. He has directed animation on a number of high profile television shows including the Chorion US produced "Olivia", and the HIT Entertainment produced "Wobblyland". He is currently working for Brown Bag films in Dublin as an Episodic Director on a new preschool show for Disney. "The Happy Hugglemonsters". From Hollywood movies, to high-end commercials to next-gen video games, visual effects plays a vital role in winning the hearts of audiences. This means achieving the high levels of realism when creating fire, smoke and fluid effects which has, in the past, consumed lots of simulation time and computer memory. With Houdini 12, VFX artists will experience game-changing improvements in speed and memory making it easier to achieve blockbuster results. This is what's new with Houdini 12, have a look. Hey so I'm starting a new job as Visual Effects Technical Director Today... Sadly in Brown Bag Films ... jejeje just kidding although this will give me time to concentrate on my effects studies .
